European patent granted

logoWe are pleased to announce that Dr. P. Kudela
and Prof. W. Ostachowicz together with Boeing Company received European patent granted by the European Patent Office for its innovative system for monitoring the technical condition of the structure.

Application No./Patent No.: 1382026.0 - 1236

Title: Structural health monitoring system.

Designated States:
Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Finland, France, Great Britain, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Monaco, Macedonia, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia, San Marino, Turkey

The developed system is based on piezoelectric transducers and MFC (Macro Fiber Composite) sensors arranged in rosette configurations. Piezoelectric transducer excite an elastic wave, which is reflected when damage occours. Reflected waves are recorded by the rosettes, and then processed by using a dedicated algorithm. The system continuously monitors the anomalies occurring in propagating elastic waves and based on recorded changes clearly indicate the location of the growing damage.
