Phase-reconstruction of a moving cylinder wake
WITOLD ELSNER, STANISŁAW DROBNIAK

Abstract

The paper presents a consecutive stage of research devoted to modelling of nonstationary rotor-stator interaction in plane cascade flows. Measurements performed with the help of a hot-wire and supplemented in phase averaged technique allowed to reconstruct the velocity fieid in the wake behind the moving cyllnder. The results obtained confirm that the flow behind the moving cylinder is dominated by the Karman vortex street forming in a repetitive manner. Triggering of the Karman vortex street which takes place when the moving cylinder passes the shear layer, has been proven in a direct way i.e. by phase reconstructed pictures of velocity field.
