Abstract
Two methods for the solution of the nonlinear inverse heat conduction problem encourrterrd in the experimental determination of the local heat transfer coefficient distributions are presented in the paper. 'The methods are formulated as linear and nonlinear least-squares problems. The uncertainties in the
estimated heat transfer coefficients are determined for the temperatule measurements with known and unknown standard deviations. The main advantage of the presented methods is that they do not require any knowledge, or solution to, the complex fluid flow lleld.
