Application of cascades of CFD methods to two-phase flow problems
GEORGE YADIGAROGLU

Abstract

Although traditionally two-phase flow problems have been treated with the interpenetrating media (two-fluid) approach, certain situations require application of new techniques, including interface tracking methods such as Volume of Fluid (VOF); methods considering the effects of turbulence on the dispersed phase (with classical Reynolds-averaged type turbulent flow models or Large Eddy Simulation, LES); etc. Often such methods need to be applied in a sequential or "cascade" form to achieve final resolution and closure of the problem. The condensation of large bubbles injected in a pool and bubble plumes are considered as case studies.
