Abstract
Destruction of Materials Due to Cavitation
The state of the cavitational erosion research was presented in brief with the omission of detailed information for use of small circles of experts. Attempt was made to include in the report intended for designers, manufacturers and users of hydraulic machines only the information that is necessaryto understand the cavitational erosion process and that allows to anticipate the response of structural materials to the cavitation, For this reason studies on the hydrodynamics of cavitational bubbles, the mechanism of destruction and the disputed problems concerning the relations between various parameters affecting the destruction of materials were omitted.
Conditions for the development of cavitation in a flow were presented first. Attention was paid to some dynamic effects associated with the decay of cavitational bubbles. Here the kinetics of a spherical bubble in liquids at constant pressure and the effects of implosion of the bubble at the wall or nearby were discussed.
