Defects of the Design of pumped-storage peakiag power plant at Żydowo with special Assessment of the Turbine performance

More important defects of the design of the pumped-storage power plant (Fig. 1) at Żydowo as seen from the viewpoint of the operating experience are presented.

Increase in the active power consumption by reversible turbines sets when operating as pumps, leakage of the guide apparatuses of turbines, cavitational erosion and condition of the automatic control system elements are the more important problems mentioned.

At the end an opinion is advanced that the experience gained during the over two years' operation of thę Żydowo Power plant should be used for the design and construction of new pumped-storage peaking power plants.
