Fundamental Assumptions for Development of Small Water Powel Stations and Resulting Indications for Standardization of Their Generating Sets [in Polish]
MARIAN HOFFMANN

Abstract

According to the criterion of simple technical construction and no regular personnel, the concept of Small Water Power Stations (SWPS) covers power stations with output capacity less than 5 MW. It foliows from the economical reasons that these plants should

  • make use of so far existing darms with total head ≥3 m,
  • have simple technical solutions (1generating set with high rotating speed and no high voltage switchboard).

It is assumed that SWPS will consist mostly of flow power plants capable to work in their own network. Ii is suggested that 950 SWPS with Kaplan turbines in concrete chambers or vertical and horizontal pipe turbines (H≤20m) and 70 power  stations with Francis turbines (H>20 m) should be put in operation till 2000. The author indicates the necessity of carrying out standardization and starting in Poland productionl of Kaplan and pipe turbines for H=2 ÷ 20 m, Q=1 m2/s, N=30 ÷ 3000 kW.

The expidency of preparing for manufacture of Banka-type in Poland, of structures suitable for installing small water powet stations. Also some most important foreign companies manufacturing water turbines of small capacity are specified.
