Professor Jan Kiciński, Ph.D., D.Sc. born in 1948, is the Head of the Department of Distributed Energy Department and the Director in the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery, Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdańsk. He graduated from the Department of Machine Building of the Technical University of Gdańsk (1972) with M. Eng. degree, Ph.D. was conferred to him in the IF-FM of PAS (1979) and D.Sc. in the University of Science and Technology (AGH) in Kraków (1986). The title of the Professor of technical sciences he obtained in 1995.

Professor J. Kiciński was appointed to the post of Director of the National Centre of Advanced Technologies "RIMAMI", consisting of some universities and the selected power engineering establishments (including some large power plants).

In the year 2006 he was appointed to a Coordinator's post of the all-Polish Scientific Network "ECO-ENERGY", assembling 8 Institutes of competence and from the PAS having the most impressive experience and achievements in the field of renewable power engineering.

In the year 2007 Professor Kiciński was assigned to a post of the Chairman of the Programming Council of the Baltic Eco-energetic Cluster, assembling more than 50 economic, local-government and scientific subjects.

Professor Kiciński is also a member of both national and international committees, such as Program Council of Polish Maritime Research and the International Institute of Applied System Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg, Austria (2008). The European sustainable energy innovation alliance (eseia), welcomes Professor Jan Kiciński, director of Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery, Polish Academy of Sciences, IMP-PAN, as new eseia Vice-President (2017).

Professor J. Kiciński was also a member of the Interdisciplinary Team of the Ministry of Science and Informatisation for the preparation of the Operation Program: "Science, modern technologies and informative society" for years 2007-2013 (nomination/letter DFS/422/BB/2005) and also the expert in the panel: "Sources and utilisation of energy resources", within the National Program Foresight POLSKA 2020 (letter/nomination of 1/08/2007).

In the year 2003 he was called into the Machine Building Committee PAS and elected as a Chairman of the Section of Exploitation Basis KBM PAS. Professor Kiciński was re-elected - for the current term of office - as a member of the Machine Building Committee.

He was also elected a member of the Power Energy Committee at the PAS Presidium. Currently Professor Kiciński is a member of Program Councils of some periodicals of an international (e.g. Tribology, Polish Maritime Research) and national circulation (e.g. Diagnostyka, Napędy i Sterowanie).
