Ring Probes for the Measurement of Charge on a Single Airborne Particle.
ANATOL JAWOREK

Abstract

The paper concerns an electrostatic method for measuring the charge carried by a single particle of charged aerosol. The probe is in the form of a ring or a long tube. A charged particle flows throughout the interior of this ring along its axis. The voltage signal induced in a measuring circuit is a measure of the particle charge. The theoretical limit of the charge measured, determined by the thermal noise, is lower than about 10-14C with an inaccuracy 5%.
