WASTEMAN Kick-off meeting 17th to 19th September 2018 in Gdańsk

On 17 September, the EU-funded project „WASTEMAN – Integrated Sustainable Waste Management Systems decreasing pollution discharges in the South Baltic area” started in Gdańsk, Poland with a kick-off meeting.

The project addresses the needed change of the MSWM sector in the South Baltic. The main objective of the project is to implement Integrated Sustainable Waste Management systems that will decrease the pollution from the waste management sector and at the same time ensure the effective recycling of municipal waste resources. Project Partners organized the kick-off meeting on 17, 18 and 19 September. During the first part of the event, which involved 29 representatives of the project partners from forth EU-countries. In the beginning of the open meeting on the 17th Sept. prof. Adam Cenian has welcomed all guests and participants. Next a representative of the Marshal's Office of the Pomeranian Voivodship had a speech stressing the importance of the protection of the environment in the Pomeranian Voivodship and has officially opened a WASTEMAN Kick-off meeting. Then Stig Hirsbak and H. Ch. Holmstrand made presentations following the agenda which were focusing on the circularity gap, structure of EU circularity plan, EU targets for municipal waste and ISWM model. Next session begun Mr. Mikael Backman with three presentations stressing important issues related to the waste management. Then presentations were conducted by the Project Partners: Eko-Dolina, Taurage municipality, Aalborg University and Nowa Karczma municipality and were focused on the waste treatment solutions implemented by the partners. The last presentation during a 1st day was conducted by Marta Niciejewska, a representative of the JS Interreg South Baltic and was dedicated to the SL 2014 electronic monitoring system. M. Niciejewska presented the main features of the SL2014 as well as importance of the system for the reporting process. After Mrs. Niciejewska finished her presentation prof. Adam Cenian summarized and closed 1st day sessions inviting participants for the excursion to the Gdańsk Old Town connected to the dinner.


On the second and third day of the kick-off meeting, the project participants presented the planned implementation of WASTEMAN. Furthermore, they discussed the next steps with the participants in workshops. Moreover, all partners used this opportunity to introduce themselves with a short presentation.
